Fashion Law Institute Diary: Event Day 1

1 June 2011 One Comment

Today marked the start of the Fashion Law Institute Summer Intensive Program. I met some fantastic people from all over the world who all share a passion for fashion and the law! It was amazing to see the diversity around the classroom–design students, law students, attorneys, and industry professionals all wanting to learn more about the relationship between law and fashion.

Once class began, I got the syllabus. While there is considerable debate about intellectual property issues that arise in the industry (trademark, copyright, patent), I’m glad the class will also cover issues involving business and finance, international trade, government regulations, and consumer culture.

There are also several additional events outside the classroom including a guided tour through the Tenement Museum and a trip to New York’s garment district on Thursday. I’m looking forward to the trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where we will visit the Costume Exhibit, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”

I also can’t wait to use my hot pink Fashion Law Institute towel on the beach this summer!!

Thank you very much Danielle for keeping this diary! I’m a French law student and as I’m also thinking of participating next year to the summer intensive course, your comments and experiences contribute to convincing me to do it! 🙂

    Kind regards,
