J. Crew jacking UP Lower East Side

Poor J. Crew, what’s it going to do? It is a company struggling to separate itself from Banana Republic and Urban Outfitters and now it is also looking for new ownership. J. Crew says that their sales have dropped because of nervous shoppers and competitors offering larger discounts.
More interestingly though is a recently filed lawsuit against J. Crew for trademark infringement. Robert G. Lopez is the owner of the “LOWER EAST SIDE” trademark. His clothing line called, L.E.S. Clothing co, manufacturers t-shirts and sweaters for customers looking for an urban chic look in the New York area. Well guess what? It just so happens that New York based J. Crew also makes “LOWER EAST SIDE” sweaters. (look here) At first glance this lawsuit sounds like a pretty bland David vs. Goliath episode, however Robert G. Lopez is a pro se plaintiff. He is going into this lawsuit with no attorney! We here at Fame Appeal are in the process of contacting Mr. Lopez for more information. SUPPORT ROBERT G. LOPEZ!!! SUPPORT INDEPENDENTLY OWNED CLOTHING LINES!!

Great article Fame Appeal! How long has J Crew been on the market and have there been any interested buyers?

This is false. Lopez did not register the mark “Lower East Side” as a federal registration; he registered it as a state registration. In June 2011, he attempted to register the mark “LES NYC” to solidify his claims after having filed lawsuits with prominent fashion houses. In addition, his application for “LES NYC” was rejected by the examiner in October 2011. The serial number for this application is 85/335,314 if anybody would like to review the facts.
Burkina NYC store been around about 20 years. They been selling LES and lower east side t-shirts way before this dude. Thats why he can’t stop Burkina.
